Bridal Hair Mythbusters

Hey bride,

Let’s chat about something that comes up ALL the time: myths about bridal hair. I see so many brides stressing over things that aren’t true, and honestly—it shouldn’t be that stressful. So, I’m here to bust some of the most common bridal hair myths once and for all. Consider this your cheat sheet to feeling confident, relaxed, and excited for your big day.

Myth 1: “Dirty hair is always better for updos.”

Truth: Not exactly. Even “lived-in” hair—like one-day-old strands—can actually make curling and styling harder. Too much build-up can weigh your hair down and make it greasy, which makes it more difficult to hold a style.

The best canvas? Clean, freshly blow-dried hair. (the night before is perfect!) Right after washing, your scalp is still producing natural oils. If you skip blow-drying or let your hair air dry, those oils stay in your wet hair and slow down drying. The result? Your hair feels heavy or “day two” even on day one.

Quick fix: Blow-dry your hair the night before using a bit of heat protectant and mousse or gel. Many mousses contain light alcohols that help your hair feel airy, hold curl better, and extend style longevity into the next day. Don’t worry, you don’t have to do a full on blowout with a round brush. Just blow dry to the best of your ability!

Myth 2: “Extensions are just for long hair.”

Truth: Extensions are a game-changer for all hair types and lengths! They add volume, help styles hold longer, and even let you play with length or shape you might not naturally have. They aren’t just about making your hair long—they’re about making your hair amazing.

Myth 3: “Updos have to be tight to last.”

Truth: Nope. Tight isn’t synonymous with lasting. The right technique, product, and pin placement make an updo stay flawless all day without making your scalp ache or leaving dents. Comfort + longevity = bridal hair win. If at any point while i am doing your hair you feel a pin thats tight or poky, PLEASE TELL ME IMMEDIATELY! IF you tell me right away then i can pull it right back out instead of fishing around for the one thats causing the problem.

Myth 4: “I don’t need a trial if I know what I want.”

Truth: You’re right! You don’t have to do a trial if you don’t want to. However, a trial isn’t just about testing a style. It’s about making sure your stylist knows exactly how to create your dream look, testing products, extensions, accessories, and seeing how your hair behaves. It’s your rehearsal for the day you’ll become a bride—why skip it?

Myth 5: “My stylist can just show up on the wedding day and wing it.”

Truth: Bridal hair is a whole process. Communication, planning, and preparation are everything. Your stylist should know your timeline, your bridal party’s hair needs, and how to adapt if anything changes. A little prep goes a long way toward a stress-free morning. I believe in preparedness based on each brides individual needs. I never want to “just show up & work” a wedding party. Its more than just a service to me.

Myth 6: “Only thick hair can hold a style.”

Truth: Every hair type can shine with the right techniques. And sometimes, thick hair actually falls more! Your stylist can create texture, volume, and structure, whether your hair is fine, medium, or thick—no one gets left behind.

That said, it’s important to be realistic about expectations. A skilled stylist will help you understand if your vision matches your current hair or if additions, like a bun filler or extensions, might be needed to achieve the exact look you want. This way, your style is not just beautiful—it’s achievable and long-lasting.

So there you have it—myths busted! Bridal hair doesn’t need to be scary or stressful. It’s your moment, your look, and your memories. The more you know, the more confident you’ll feel walking down the aisle with a style that actually lasts.
